ABSTRACT
This project provides an overview of a research study surrounding the application of a subset of gamification elements in the context of promoting exercise. We developed two separate android applications that allowed a user to track, exercise, and monitor their fitness progress. The first app presented that functionality through the use of gamification while the second one did not. We then examined the use of the two apps and analyzed the post-study survey results. The results indicated that the gamified application did not offer any substantial difference in usage levels or exercise frequency compared to the control version of the app. The results also provide insight for further investigation into the topic as well as for the design of future gamified applications.
