This project investigates the development of an iOS application which uses augmented reality to overlay location based data of points of interest locations near a user. The paper goes into the implementation details of getting started with ARKit (Apple’s augmented reality framework), and requesting data from the Google Maps API. Lastly, this paper outlines the core implementation details of using ARKit along with Google’s maps API in the What’s Around application to display location based data of establishments such as restaurants, libraries, and parks located near a user.
