Hack Days is a company-wide experiment Shopify runs a few times a year where employees take three days to create or work on a project with employees they not normally would work with. To facilitate this event, the Culture Tools team is in charge of maintaining the stand alone application HackDays that regulates project management and other intricacies of the event. My position as a developer on the Culture Tools team gave me the ability to participate in a two month long project which was an overhaul of the application that we named HackDays: Back to Basics.
