ABSTRACT
Games are made to be simplified worlds with simplified rules to maximize player enjoyment. This means breaking games into simplified disjointed genres, which has the effect of forcing groups of gamers who want to game together to pick a game of a genre that doesn’t necessarily appeal to everyone in the group. The author attempted to create a game based metaverse, where players can cooperatively play as a Grand Strategist, a City Builder or a Puzzler. To achieve this goal the game was developed using the Unity game engine. Within the game, players can transition between different game views while playing the game under different roles. The roles then define the genre of game experienced by the player. A simple open source chat server was used along with a specialized client to facilitate multiplayer gameplay. Ultimately, the project serves as a solid proof of concept for a game based metaverse, where gamers of diverse backgrounds can play cooperatively and competitively. That said, there are several potential pitfalls that were not addressed by this project and warrant further exploration and investigation.
