Search engines are the standard method used to discover data on the internet and this remains true whether you’re online shopping for a specific product or a Shopify merchant browsing the admin for a specific setting. Building a reliable search engine is a foundational piece when creating a good discovery experience for users. This project is an in depth analysis of my time on the Discovery Experience team at Shopify and how we transformed the flawed search system used on Shopify stores into a system that scales and can be incrementally upgraded as time goes on.
