ABSTRACT
As technology progresses and almost everything is now stored online or in the cloud, the need for preparing to pass those accounts or devices on after death is something that needs to be considered. The scope and importance of most people’s digital legacy is growing more and more important, but the traditional tools of inheritance (such as wills) often don’t provide meaningful tools for handling this kind of information. Particularly, we are concerned that the means of passing on the authentication information needed to access these legacies is often inadequate and insecure. The results of this study will be used to design tools or best practice recommendations that help people effectively prepare for their access and information to go where they want it, when they want it.
